5 Reasons to Visit Saint Martin Right Now

Share

Wondering if you should take a trip to the beautiful island of Saint Martin / Sint Maarten? Well, I just got back from a family vacation there and can 100% recommend it. There are some many amazing reasons to visit Saint Martin, but these are just a few of my absolute favorites.

Here are 5 reasons to visit Saint Martin right now!

1. You get to experience two countries and two cultures on one island

The island of Saint Martin/Sint Maarten is unique in that it is the smallest land mass in the world that is split into two countries. One side of the island is French while the other is Dutch. That being said, you get to experience both of these distinct cultures and more on your visit. From the fine traditional French cuisine in Marigot to the colorful nightlight and Dutch treats you can find in Marigot – Saint Martin is worth the visit. Don’t forget the unique influence of Caribbean, African, European, and Asian cultures you’ll find here as well.

2. Check the world’s steepest zipline off your bucket list

The Flying Dutchman is definitely worth a visit for all adrenaline junkies. Some of the family tried this zipline while we were on the trip and described it as “the closest you can get to experiencing a rollercoaster on a zipline”. I’m not enough of an adrenaline junkie to have tried it but it looked like a lot of fun!

3. The nude (and not so nude) beaches

I can’t even believe I’m saying this. As someone who is not a nudist and was not necessarily looking forward to visiting a nude beachI can unequivocally say I was wrong. These beaches are pretty awesome and honestly really freeing. Don’t knock it til’ you try it right?

This is not to say that all the beaches in Saint Martin are nude or are not family-friendly! At Orient Bay Beach (the only official nude beach on the French side) only a small portion at the very end of the beach is for nudists and the rest is totally normal!

4. Take a plane selfie at the world-famous Maho Beach

I promise the photos below are not photoshopped at all! These are the awesome pictures I got while watching planes land at the world-famous Maho Beach. This beach sits only a few hundred feet away from the runway, making for some epic

5. Experience even more of the Caribbean by island hopping

Saint Martin is perfectly positioned for some Caribbean island hopping! After checking out the sights and things to do around the island, take a day trip to Anguilla or St. Barts via speed boat or catamaran to explore even more breathtaking beaches and the vibrant Caribbean culture.
