There are also plenty of unique shops and boutiques to pick up a fun souvenir. Bairro Alto, along with Alfama are some of the best neighborhoods to listen to Portugal’s famous Fado music.

Head to Chiado for the Evening

After a busy day in Alfama, spend your evening in Chiado to be transported to the city’s cultural epicenter. There are many ways to get there including Tram 28, the Santa Justa Lift, or the Elevador da Gloria from Restauradores Square.

In Chiado, you can admire the elegant, bohemian architecture of the area. Then, enjoy dinner at a number of mouthwatering restaurant options. My recommendations include Palácio Chiado (definitely book ahead!), ROCCO, Oficio (Michelin Star), Wine Not? Tapas Bar, and Restaurante Bono.

After dinner, drop by the iconic Café A Brasileira – where famous Portuguese poet Fernando Pessoa spent much of his time – for coffee, tea, or a pastry. Craving something sweeter? Grab a cup of the best ice cream in Lisbon at Gelados Santini on Rua do Carmo.
